OPINIONS 101: THE BUSH LEGACY: A $422 BILLION DEFICIT

September 7, 2004

Today The Congressional Budget Office released a report wherein it projected that this election-year's federal deficit will hit a record $422 billion.

I notice there's nothing noted on the Bush blog, though the Bush camp seems quite pleased with the news of the deficit.

Astonishingly, the Republican party is hailing the figures as good news. Tim Adams, policy director for the Bush administration, spun the news as "a sign of the economic growth that is a result of President Bush's leadership on tax relief."

Wow.

House Budget Chairman Jim Nussle (R-Iowa) noted that "This report underscores that our policies are working to create a stronger economy, more jobs and a lower deficit."

Um...sure Jim.

As John Kerry commented today, "Only George W. Bush could celebrate over a record budget deficit of $422 billion, a loss of 1.6 million jobs, and Medicare premiums that are up by a record 17 percent," Kerry said.

$422 billion folks, and the number is growing.

Speaking of numbers, the number of US soldiers killed in Bush's War on Iraq reached 1,000 today.

President Evil is leaving behind quite a legacy. I only hope the damage can be undone in our lifetime...
